January 13, 2004 -- Firefighters at Brooklyn's Engine Co. 230 are heartbroken over the disappearance of Burny, a beloved pooch they rescued from a blaze and nursed back to health.

The 2-year-old German shepherd mix, who was wearing a red collar that said Burny Engine 230 on it, vanished Thursday from the firehouse at Park Avenue and Tompkins Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Heartsick firefighters ask anyone who finds a dog fitting Burny's description to call the firehouse any time at (718) 965-8230. There is a $500 reward.
