The City of Des Moines and Des Moines Fire Department will promote "Severe Weather Awareness Week" by participating in a statewide tornado drill. The severe weather drill will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 with a practice tornado watch. A practice tornado warning at approximately 10:15 AM will initiate the sounding of the outdoor warning sirens. The drill will conclude with a practice ending statement issued by the National Weather Service. The drill is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
The National Weather Service is promoting severe weather safety this week. Public information statements are being announced twice a day with topics that include severe weather products, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding and all-hazards preparedness.
