Jan. 17--Carmen St. Laurent of Hollywood greeted her "babies" Tuesday when feline house fire survivors Angel, Jorge, Roberto and Serena were discharged after their week-long recuperation at Hollywood Animal Hospital.

The cats were saved Jan. 10 by Hollywood Fire Rescue after an early morning blaze at an apartment on the 1600 block of Dewey Street.

Two of St. Laurent's other cats did not live through the fire.

No people were injured in the incident that Hollywood Fire Rescue Division Chief John Bridenburg said is still under investigation.

St. Laurent said her pets will reside temporarily with an acquaintance. She is staying with another friend while looking for a place to live.

Dr. Nicole Patterson of the Hollywood Animal Hospital said most of the pets' bills were forgiven, but that more than $1,000 was owed for the treatments that led to their recovery.--Amy Beth Bennett and Linda Trischitta
