Feb. 06--Firefighters are mopping up after a Monday morning fire damaged a large shop building.
The fire was reported at 9:44 a.m. at 20319 N.W. 41st Ave., near Ridgefield. It was under control less than an hour later.
A neighbor reported the fire in the building, which was estimated to be 100 feet long.
According to radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, there is significant damage to the structure and its contents.
No one was reported to be inside at the time of the fire.
There are no hydrants in the area, so firefighters had to lay 2,000 feet of hose and are using water tenders to battle the blaze. Clark County Fire & Rescue is the lead agency, assisted by Clark County Fire District 6 and a water tender from Woodland.
Aerial photos of the property show the building is a metal-clad pole barn with a metal roll-up door. Firefighters had to peel the siding off parts of the structure to get at the fire and ventilate it.
County property records indicate the property is owned by Kelly Kemper.
