Feb. 15--Lake Superior College will blow up a couple of mobile homes Thursday as part of a "propane home explosion" training session hosted by its Emergency Response Training Center in Gary-New Duluth.

The training center is at 11501 Highway 23. Residents in that area can expect several controlled propane test explosions at 10 a.m. and from 1-2 p.m. LSC is partnering with the Minnesota chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, the St. Paul Fire Department, the Duluth Police Department and Cheri Sundae Productions in the activity.

The purpose of the exercise is to monitor gas levels and study the flow patterns in a home during a propane leak. The History Channel will use footage of the exercise in a pilot episode of a new series.

Two mobile homes will undergo the test explosions. LSC fire and rescue technology students will put out the fires.
