Pa. Firefighter Arrested for Allegedly Torching Garage

State police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter from Auburn on arson charges in connection with a garage fire earlier this month.

State police on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter from Auburn on arson charges in connection with a garage fire earlier this month.

David M. Berk was charged with setting fire to a garage at 434 Market St. in Auburn on Feb. 2 shortly after midnight, troopers said.

The garage and its contents were destroyed. The property is owned by Douglas Naftzinger and was used by Harold Miller.

An adjacent storage shed owned by Jeffrey Webber was also damaged.

No damage estimate was given.

Berk was arraigned before District Judge David A. Plachko and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

An investigation continues.
