March 15--MANCHESTER -- Two people were injured in an early-morning motel fire.

The lone occupant of room 114 of Manchester Inn, 100 East Center St., had burns to his arms and hands after the fire, which was reported about 4:30 a.m., the town's fire chief said.

A second man who had been staying in the room above him suffered smoke inhalation, according to a press release from Robert Bycholski, chief of Manchester Fire-Rescue-EMS. Both men were transported to Manchester Memorial Hospital.

There were heavy flames in the room when firefighters arrived -- two minutes after they were dispatched, Bycholski said. Firefighters and police officers evacuated all 38 occupants.

The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes, he said.

About a dozen of the motel's 42 rooms have smoke damage, he said. Firefighters cleared the scene by 6 a.m.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause.
