April 16--Two people died in a mobile home fire about five miles south of Beardstown early Sunday morning.
Cass County Death Examiner Wyatt Sager identified the victims as Henry "Bud" Krohe, 68, and his 29-year-old daughter, Jeanette Krohe.
Sager said Jeanette Krohe had four young children who resided in the mobile home, but they were staying with a baby sitter when the fire occurred.
Beardstown firefighters and Cass County deputies were called about 3:30 a.m. Sunday and found the Krohes' mobile home engulfed in flames upon arrival. The mobile home is located at U.S. 67 and North Hagener Road.
The fire was extinguished and the badly burned remains of the Krohes were found inside, according to Sager.
Preliminary results of an autopsy performed on the Krohes' remains at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield showed they died of smoke inhalation, according to Sager. "We will still have a complete toxicology report done to see if drugs or alcohol could have been a contributing cause for them to not awaken and get out of the home," he said.
The state fire marshal's office was called to investigate the blaze.
