MANCHESTER, Conn. -- An Eighth Utilities District firefighter who was arrested after a suspected drug deal in the firehouse parking lot last month has resigned from the agency.
Joseph Litrico, who was a paid EMT/firefighter, resigned on April 17, district President Mary O'Marra said Wednesday. Litrico had been in the paid position for about a year and was a volunteer with the department before that, O'Marra said.
Litrico, 24, of 34 Evergreen St., was arrested on March 12 after narcotics officers saw him make a suspected drug deal with another man in the parking lot of the district's Main Street fire station, police have said. Litrico was on duty and in uniform at the time, police have said.
Police seized about 2 grams of heroin from Litrico, along with suboxone pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and bags that had been used to package heroine, which they found in his vehicle, police have said.
The criminal case against Litrico, son of department Fire Chief Paul Litrico, is pending in Manchester Superior Court. The Utilities District had launched its own investigation of the incident, but that probe closed with Litrico's resignation, O'Marra said.
