WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Firefighters rescued two people from a burning home in Northeast DC on Sunday.
Fire crews responded to the two-story single home fire, on the 100 block of 50th street, at about 1:34 p.m. Crews removed a 93-year-old woman and 68-year-old man from the home, said D.C. Fire Chief Kenneth Ellerbe.
EMS performed CPR on the elderly woman and resuscitated her. Both individuals were transported to local hospitals suffering life-threatening injures and are in critical condition, said Ellerbe.
Officials believe the residents are a great grandmother and great nephew.
One cat was killed during the fire and two other pets, a cat and dog, were rescued.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Arson investigators are also on the scene.
