Campus Firewatch Radio: Increasing Personal Safety Awareness Among Students

Dec. 20, 2008

On this edition of Campus Firewatch Radio, host Ed Comeau visits with Andrew Pantelis who conducted an innovative study at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute in College Park. A group of students from the nearby University of Maryland spent the day getting drunk (under supervision) and went through a periodic set of exercises to measure their ability to evacuate from a smoke-filled environment.

Next, Mike Rupert from the District of Columbia talks about his program "This Should Be Illegal" that targeted students living off-campus in Washington and educated them about their rights as tenants by making extensive use of the social media site, Facebook.

Ed Comeau finishes rounds out this program with Aaron Johnson from the Westhill Group about social marketing and how it can be used to reach today's "Net Gen."

In addition to this podcast, all of these stories, and more, are in the December issue of Campus Firewatch.
