Feb. 13--RIDGELEY, W.Va. -- Robbie Pollock, president of the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, announced at Tuesday's town council meeting that the department is under investigation by the Keyser detachment of the West Virginia State Police for money missing from 2005 to 2010, according to Councilwoman Tanya Ryan.
Ryan said Pollock made the announcement because of residents' questions.
Sgt. J.M. Droppleman of the West Virginia State Police confirmed that Senior Trooper T.A. Hutchenson is investigating the matter and compiling information to pass along to Mineral County Prosecuting Attorney Jay Courrier.
Droppleman couldn't provide any further information, but said Hutchenson has been working on the investigation for awhile and that he would be giving the information to Courrier in the next couple of weeks.
Courrier also confirmed that there is an investigation and said there is a lot of paperwork involved in embezzlement cases.
The fire department was established in 1925, with its active membership not to exceed 64 members, according to its website.
Repeated attempts to contact someone from the fire department were unsuccessful.
