Charles Krenek, 48, a Fire Suppression and Mitigation Specialist/Aviation Manager with the Texas Forest Service, is being reported by USFA as a LODD when he died in a helicopter crash, March 27.
The helicopter crashed while Krenek and his crew were doing an aerial search for Space Shuttle Columbia debris in the Angelina National Forest near Broaddus.
The low-level flight crash took the lives of two including Krenek and pilot Jules F. ``Buzz'' Mier Jr., 56. Injured in the accident were Matt Tschacher of South Dakota, a U.S. Forest Service employee; Richard Lange with the United Space Alliance at Kennedy Space Center in Florida; and Ronnie Dale with NASA at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
A 26-year veteran of the Texas Forest Service, Krenek is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Michele Krenek of Pearland.
The funeral was held March 30 at the First Assembly of God Family Church in
