A New Jersey firefighter died Wednesday following an extended operation at a fire.
Cliffside Park Fire Department, Cosmo Paris, 59, was returning home after an incident when he suffered an apparent heart attack, according to the USFA.
"Firefighter Paris responded to an activated alarm which created a hazard in the building necessitating fire officials to order a stand-by at the location for a fire watch. The fire watch duty extended 16 hours in sub-freezing temperatures," the USFA report stated.
A short time later, he was stricken while driving a vehicle. A local police officer discovered him, and called for an ambulance. Paris was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Funeral arrangements have not been made.
