A fire department in central Ohio is mourning the loss of its chief after he succumbed to COVID-19 complications.

The Mary Ann Township Fire Department in Licking County east of Columbus announced in a social media post on Monday that Fire Chief Randy Miner had died of the deadly virus after contracting it while on duty.

According to the post, Miner was the agency's first full-time employee and rose through the ranks until attaining the rank of chief.

"Randy will be remembered for his quiet, but caring demeanor around the firehouse," the post reads. "He was always willing to help anyone in any way he could."
