CA Wildland Firefighter Dies of COVID Complications

A veteran firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service in California passed away from COVID-19 complications.

The U.S. Fire Administration on Tuesday announced the line-of-duty death of Liaison Officer Allen Johnson, 68, who worked in the Stanislaus National Forest.

The 49-year veteran of the fire service was assigned to the French Fire near Kernville when he contracted the virus on or around Aug. 24. He was placed in isolation at the incident and then transported to a hospital on Aug. 31 where he died.
