A firefighter was killed while responding to a fire after his apparatus from the Ebenezer Fire Protection District left the road and rolled over.

Ebenezer firefighter Dustin Brandhorst, 36, was responding to a reported fire when his apparatus traveled off the right side of the road and overturned, according to Ozarksfirst.com.

Brandhorst was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.

He was responding to a structure fire in an abandoned structure in Fair Grove when the accident occurred.

The Ebenezer Fire Protection District posted on their Facebook, “We are devastated to release that on the evening of March 18th one of our firefighters died in the line of duty while responding to a structure fire.”

"Dustin’s absence is already noticeable, and painful. He has been an incredible volunteer during his 3 years at Ebenezer and has displayed unending commitment, reliability, and ultimately now - self sacrifice. Dustin will always be missed, and always be remembered. The impact he made upon his community here in Ebenezer will last for decades. He leaves behind a loving wife, son, and daughter; mother and siblings, as well as a legacy of valor," the department shared.
