MI Firefighter Dies after Medical Episode

Grand Traverse Band Fire/Rescue Firefighter David Wayne McDonald, Jr. passed after suffering a medical episode while on-duty.

Grand Traverse Band Fire/Rescue Firefighter officials announce the death of David Wayne McDonald, Jr., 40, a fifteen-year veteran of the fire service who passed from a medical episode while on-duty.

On Thursday, March 17, McDonald Jr. suffered a medical episode while on-duty at the fire station, Firefighter/EMT David Wayne McDonald, Jr. was found deceased on the bay floor by a fellow firefighter, according to a notification from the U.S. Fire Administration.

In a Facebook post the Grand Traverse Band Fire/Rescue said, McDonald was also a firefighter with Pleasant Plains Fire Department in Baldwin, Michigan. Grand Traverse Band Fire/Rescue and Firefighter McDonalds loved ones appreciate the outpouring of support from the community.”

McDonald also served with the Holland Department of Public Safety - Fire Services, in a Facebook post they said, “Today we are saddened to learn about the death of one of our former firefighters/EMTs, David McDonald. David served as a paid-on-call firefighter in our department for over 14 years and received the Paid On Call Firefighter of the Year award in 2018.”
