Serving America's Bravest through the latest fire service news and training
On May 5, a captain with Wyomissing Fire Department answered his final alarm.
Capt. Derrick L. Nester, 43, responded to numerous calls on Sunday while he was working an overtime shift. The last one was a structure fire.
He went home when his shift was over.
When he did not show up for his regular tour of duty on the Monday evening, fellow firefighters were unable to contact him.
The fire chief went to Nester's home and found him deceased, the U.S. Fire Administration reported.
His death appears to have been a heart attack.
He was the 25th firefighter to die on duty this year.
