BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) -- A federal grand jury here indicted a Mio resident on 17 felony charges of arson in the Huron-Manistee National Forest, U.S. Attorney Jeffrey G. Collins said Thursday.
The indictment accuses James Earl Sherwood, 33, of setting fires in the national forest on various dates in 2003 and 2004, Collins said in a statement.
Sherwood was originally arrested June 2 on a federal warrant and has been held on a $75,000 bond while being electronically tethered to his residence. He is scheduled to be arraigned July 16 on charges in the indictment.
Conviction on each arson charge is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, plus fines and restitution of up to $250,000.
