South Kingstown, RI, Firefighters Tackle Flames in Oyster Bar

The wind was a challenge at first, but firefighters got the upper hand, Union Fire District Chief Steve Pinch said.

A popular restaurant in South Kingstown was destroyed by fire early Tuesday.

Union firefighters encountered heavy fire when they responded at 3:45 a.m. 

Union Fire District Chief Steve Pinch told WPRI the wind was a challenge at first, but firefighters worked to get the upper hand.

The cause of the fire at Matunuck Oyster Bar is under investigation.

“Everybody in town either works or knows somebody who works at the oyster bar, or comes here and enjoys the oyster bar. So, we are just saddened for all of the employees and the owner."
