Four-Alarm Brush Fire KO'd By New Hampshire Firefighters

Conditions were 'just right' to keep the fire moving very quickly

NEWMARKET - Two brush fires spread quickly Monday afternoon, burning across a large acreage off Ash Swamp Road.

The fires were in the area of 155 and 190 Ash Swamp Road.

The call for fire personnel went out at about 2:45 p.m. and the fire was contained in about a half-hour. Crews planned to remain on scene to watch woods and fields for spots that could reignite. By 9 p.m., firefighters had cleared the scene and no further outbreaks were reported.

Fire Chief Richard Malasky said the fire went to a fourth alarm not because of a lack of manpower, but because conditions were just right to keep the fire moving very quickly.
