NJ Firefighter Injured in Smoke Shop Blaze

    A New Brunswick, NJ, firefighter suffered a knee injury battling a fire that broke out at a smoke shop early Monday.

    A firefighter was injured early Monday battling a blaze that caused extensive damage to a smoke shop in downtown New Brunswick, authorities said.

    Firefighters responded to the blaze on Easton Avenue around 2:05 a.m. at the three-story Amsterdam Smoke Shop, Deputy Chief Kevin McCann said.

    The fire began in the attic and progressed through the roof before being brought under control around 5:45 a.m., he said.

    One firefighter sustained a knee injury and was treated and released at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

    McCann was unsure if anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation by the New Brunswick Fire Department, he said.
