MA Firefighter Injured Battling Vacant House Blaze

The Springfield firefighter was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as crews tackled a fire that broke out at a 2 ½-story house Wednesday.

SPRINGFIELD, MAA city firefighter was injured while extinguishing a blaze in a vacant building in the Old Hill section of the city.

The firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment. Fire Capt. Drew E. Piemonte said the injuries were not life-threatening.

The fire in the 2 ½-story house at 347-349 Walnut St. was reported at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, he said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Department’s Arson and Bomb Squad, Piemonte said.
