A firefighter sustained a minor injury Saturday morning as crews battled a fire at an apartment building in northeast Dallas.

Dallas Fire-Rescue crews were called to the Tealwood Apartments at 6050 Melody Lane just after 12:30 a.m. A security officer noticed the fire and helped evacuate the residents in the three-story building before firefighters arrived.

Crews extinguished the fire in under two hours, according to DFR spokesman Jason Evans. Two units and an attic space in the building were damaged by the fire, while an unknown number of units sustained damage from water and smoke. The American Red Cross is assisting at least 20 residents, Evans said.

None of the residents were injured. After the firefighter was injured, he was evaluated at a hospital and later released. He is expected to be OK.
