A Jersey City firefighter rescued a burned and disoriented woman who was too weak to safely escape a two-story building that had caught fire Thursday.

A Jersey City firefighter rescued a wounded disabled woman from a burning building on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Firefighter Denis Galvin entered the two-story building at 604 Palisade Ave. after the silhouette of a person was spotted in a hallway of the home, Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

Galvin reached the woman, who was enveloped by smoke, burned and disoriented. The woman was too weak to exit the burning building by herself, so Galvin picked her up and carried her to safety, Wallace-Scalcione said.

The victim was transported to Christ Hospital for treatment for her hand and facial burns, as well as suspected respiratory burns. She remained hospitalized as of Friday, Wallace-Scalcione added.
