Fire at CO Senior Living Center Leaves One Injured

As flames spread to the attic of the Lakewood senior living building and West Metro firefighters took residents to safety in the lobby.

Flames spread from a third floor apartment to the attic of the Lakewood senior living building.

Feb. 11—West Metro firefighters rushed to the 1800 block of South Balsam Street for an overnight blaze at Brookdale Meridian Lakewood, a senior living facility.

One person was sent to the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, while other residents were evacuated into the facility's lobby, West Metro Fire Rescue said.

The fire began around 4:30 a.m., and several engines responded. Responders quickly contained the fire to one third-floor unit and the attic. Firefighters are still monitoring possible hot spots.

An investigator was on the scene to determine how and where the fire started.
