Watch: MI Home Destroyed by Fire, 2 Occupants Burned

April 11, 2022
Two residents were burned in a fire that destroyed a Wakeshema Township home.

The South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority battled a fully involved dwelling fire that burned two residents and destroyed a Wakeshema Township home.

Firefighters were called to the dwelling fire early Sunday morning and arrived at a home fully involved.

Prior to the fire departments arrival, an occupant tried to extinguish the blaze unsuccessfully, according to a Facebook post by the South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority.

Officials said there was a significant delay in contacting 9-1-1, which allowed the fire to progress before a neighbor several hundred yards down the road called it in.

Two occupants were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening burns, a total of eight people were left homeless.
