NY Chopper Crew Spots Structure Fire

Sept. 2, 2022
Syracuse firefighters battled two working incidents on the same street Thursday night.

A helicopter crew spotted a structure fire in Syracuse Thursday night.

It would be the first of two working incidents on the same street.

Crews made an aggressive interior attack, making their way through the vacant structure to the attic, where they were able to extinguish the fire. Other firefighters searched for victims but found none, according to a fire department report.

The building once housed Tully Pizza and Food but has been vacant for several years.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the attic.

While companies were still operating, they received reports of another fire about two blocks away. There, they also found heavy fire on the second floor and roof, officials reported.

Officers determined there would not be an interior attack as it appeared one side of the house was about to collapse. A safety zone was established.

Firefighters assumed defensive tactics and protected the threatened adjacent structures from the intense heat. They flowed water into the fire building from handlines, portable and aerial-mounted master-streams, officials said in the statement.

There were no injuries at either fire which remain under investigation. It's also too early to determine if they are related.
