NC Firefighter Injured After Crew Falls into Basement

Burlington firefighters were searching for a person believed to be trapped inside a burning house Friday when the floor gave way and sent the first responders plunging to the basement.

A North Carolina firefighter was injured after falling through the floor of a burning home Friday.

Burlington crews arrived at the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m., and initially, they were told someone might have been still inside the house, which was engulfed in flames, WXII-TV reports. While searching for anyone still trapped in the house, a group of firefighters fell through the floor and into the basement.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital following the fall.

"Additional fire crews quickly rescued the crew in distress and determined one firefighter was sufficiently injured to require transport to Moses Cone by Alamance County EMS with non-life-threatening injuries," the department told WXII.

The resident had safely made it out of the burning house, according to the department. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
