VA Firefighter Burned in Blaze at Renovated House

A Portsmouth firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment, and crews extinguished a fire that broke out at a home being renovated Tuesday night.

A Virginia firefighter was injured in a house blaze late Tuesday.

Portsmouth crews responded to a fire at a home under renovation shortly after 11:50 a.m., WVEC-TV reports. Once they reached the scene, they discovered heavy flames coming from inside.

A firefighter was injured battling the blaze and taken to the hospital for treatment. He suffered burns to his hand from radiant heat, the department said in an online update.

Crews were able to get the fire under control shortly after 1 a.m., the department added.
