A wind-driven three-alarm fire destroyed one home and damaged a second residence Monday afternoon in Brick, police said.
Emergency crews were called to the blaze around 3:30 p.m. on Bay Way, near Blue Cedar Drive, in the Bay Harbor section of the township, according to Sgt. Jim Kelly, of the Brick Township Police Department.
Fueled by the wind, the flames caused “extensive damage” to a next-door home on Bay Way, Kelly said. Firefighters also doused spot fires on another nearby property.
One firefighter suffered a minor burn, authorities said. A resident of the home where the fire initially sparked escaped unharmed.
Brick Township fire companies, including Pioneer Hose, Breton Woods, Laurelton and Herbertsville helped battle the blaze. The Point Pleasant Borough, Point Pleasant Beach, Silverton and East Dover fire companies also assisted.
Detectives with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Brick police and Brick Fire Safety Bureau officials were investigating what caused the fire.
