A Portland battalion chief found his department vehicle broken into and items missing Saturday morning.
A turnout coat and SCBA were stolen, according to KPTV.
Portland Fire & Rescue said the incident occurred sometime Friday night or early Saturday outside the officer's home.
“I have no idea what reason somebody would have. I can’t imagine there’s much of a market for firefighting air packs out there, but I would be speculating,” PIO Jake Garland told reporters.
He added that he has seen break-ins and things go missing before, even from working fire engines, but “this is the first to my knowledge of someone physically breaking into it by breaking a window. That’s not to say it hasn’t happened before.”
The gear is worth $10,000.
