Following a collision, a truck wound up struck on the tracks at a rail crossing in Ector County.
As the train approached, the driver managed to get out before it was hit, CBS7 reported.
The driver was transported to a hospital for treatment.
John Grube, who was driving the van involved in the earlier collision, was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger, Kay Pries was critically injured.
