Fireworks set off in a courtyard may have caused a four-alarm apartment building fire in Brooklyn on New Year's Eve.
FDNY fire marshals found a box of fireworks in a yard next to the building, abc7 reported.
The fire in the construction area quickly spread into the building damaging 12 apartments.
Seven people, including two children and two firefighters, were taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, according to CBS2.
Residents reported hearing fireworks just before seeing the construction materials in the courtyard burning.
"I heard the boom, boom, boom, and when I came on out, back on the other side of the building, it's on fire. Like a bonfire. But I'm glad everybody is out, thank God," resident Susan Aeiken said.
