Watch: Roof Collapse, Mayday Called at Bronx Auto Garage Fire

FDNY firefighters battled a multiple-alarm fire in a Bronx automotive repair shop. When the roof collapsed, a mayday was called.

A three-alarm fire destroyed an auto repair business in the Bronx over the weekend. The intense fire conditions caused the roof to collapse, prompting a mayday call.

The fire was reported at 11 p.m. Saturday at the one-story building on Park Avenue near Claremont Parkway, according to

“We arrived to find heavy fire throughout the building. We had firefighters inside the building for a short while. Just after we pulled everybody out, we had a collapse of the roof,” John Esposito, Chief of Operations said in a statement

At about 26:15 in this video, you can see the roof begin to collapse as videographer THEMAJESTIRIUM1 capatures the scene, then you hear an immediate mayday call.

FDNY officials said one firefighter was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The fire was placed under control almost four hours after firefighters arrived..
