Naperville Fire Department's water rescue team pulled a woman from a vehicle driven into a retention pond Monday morning, according to Scott Salela, division chief with the department.
Firefighters were dispatched about 6:45 a.m. to the corner of Brookdale Road and Bond Street, where they immediately donned protective equipment to enter the water and locate the driver, Salela said.
According to the Naperville Professional Firefighters Facebook group, rescuers were able pull a person from the sinking vehicle before it completely filled with water.
Salela said the driver is believed to have experienced a medical condition, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. Fire officials did not have the woman's age or hometown.
She was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville for medical attention.
The dive team searched the vehicle and the pond to ensure no one else was in the water, Salela said.
