The unidentified firefighter sustained second-degree burns to as much as nine-percent of his body, including hands and chest, according to a statement from the LAFD.
He was transported in fair condition by ambulance to the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and was treated and released.
Officials did not specify when he was return to duty.
No other injuries were reported in the fire.
A total of 118 firefighters responded to a commercial building at 9654 Cozycroft Avenue that at approximately 12:15 a.m.
They found fire going through the roof of the one-story building.
Crews began an offensive attack but switched to defensive as the roof began to weaken. They prevented the flames from spreading beyond the affected units.
Their efforts prevented the fire from damaging the gymnasium and metalworking firm and was brought under control is just over an hour.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
