Video: Five Detroit Firefighters Hurt Battling Blaze

DETROIT -- Five Detroit firefighters were hurt early Monday morning while fighting a blaze inside an abandoned commercial building on the city's southwest side. The fire broke out just before 1:30 a.m. near Oakwood and Fort streets. A wall collapsed on the firefighters. Fire department officials said all of the firefighters were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries involving their shoulders, arms and hands.

Five Detroit firefighters were hurt early Monday morning while fighting a blaze inside an abandoned commercial building on the city's southwest side.

The fire broke out just before 1:30 a.m. near Oakwood and Fort streets. A wall collapsed on the firefighters.

Fire department officials said all of the firefighters were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries involving their shoulders, arms and hands.

* A lieutenant from Ladder 22 remains hospitalized.

* A sergeant from Engine 27 has since been treated and released.

* A firefighter from Engine 33 has since been treated and released.

* A firefighter from Engine 48 has since been treated and released.

* A firefighter driver from Squad 2 has since been treated and released.

The building stood alone and it did not threaten other businesses.

Fire officials have called the blaze suspicious. An investigation is under way.
