MARRERO, La. --
A natural gas leak forced the evacuation of a Marrero neighborhood for a couple hours Wednesday night.
Officials from the Marrero Rogusa Fire Department said a car crashed into a house on the corner of Acre Road and Cohen Avenue, hitting the natural gas line in front at about 8 p.m.
Neighbors said the crash sounded like an explosion.
As a precaution, firefighters immediately evacuated 50 to 60 homes in the area.
Workers from Atmos Energy shut off the gas at 9:30 p.m. and said they hope to have the line repaired sometime Thursday morning.
