FAIR OAKS, Va. -- Two Fairfax County firefighters were injured battling an apartment fire last night amid a snowstorm that hit the area, according to WJLA-TV.

Snow caused a portion of the roof to collapse sending one firefighter down three floors from a balcony. Another firefighter was transported to the Washington Burn Center after his face mask became dislodged.

Fire officials told the news station that the injuries sustained by the firefighters were minor.

More than a dozen residents were displaced by the fire on Hunt Club Circle.

Witnesses told the news station that crews had a tough time getting through the snow and after clearing snow from a hydrant struggled to move their equipment through the knee-deep snow.

Because of the snow, National Guard units were on hand and assisted in transporting the firefighters to the hospital.
