VIRGINIA BEACH -- An Emergency Medical Services brigade chief was indicted Monday on a reckless driving and endangerment charge after a March 1 crash in which an 88-year-old woman was killed.
The charge against Jeffrey Lynn Brennaman is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
Brennaman was driving an EMS sport utility vehicle but was not responding to an emergency when the crash occurred near Lynnhaven Mall, police said.
A 29-year-old woman was attempting to turn left onto North Mall Drive from northbound Lynnhaven Parkway when the SUV struck the passenger side of her sedan, police said. Doris Virginia Baxter, who was in the passenger seat, died at a hospital shortly after her arrival. The driver suffered minor injuries.
Brennaman, who has worked for EMS for 31 years, was placed on administrative duties and will remain in that position until the case is resolved, said interim EMS Chief Ed Brazle.
