A dwelling fire in Portland sent ten firefighters to the hospital including three that were administered Narcan on the fireground.

Fire crews were sent to a home in Portland for a report of smoke, first arriving officer reported heavy, black smoke coming from the dwelling, and soon after reported the home well involved.

Close to 4:00 p.m., crews had the fire knocked down. Around 4:30 p.m., multiple ambulances were requested to the scene after several firefighters became ill, The Post-Journal reported.

Fire officials said this was the first time so many firefighters have fallen ill at once, no determination has been made as to what the fire crews were exposed to.

In a Facebook post the Portland Fire Department said, “The Portland Fire Department would like to thank all of our Brothers and Sisters that assisted us last evening at our Webster Road Fire. At this time, we have been in contact with the departments that had members sent to area hospitals and we are grateful to report that everyone is now home and being closely monitored.”
