She was a mentor, a joker, with an undeniable presence. Firefighter Izabella Nash is being remembered after succumbing to injuries suffered in a blaze at Slacks Creek.
She's the first Queensland fire fighter killed in action in more than 20 years.
The daughter of a police officer, she was always smiling. Before joining the Queensland fire service, she served in the Army, according to 7 News.
John Oliver from the United Firefighters Union Queensland told the medial the incident has taken an 'emotional toll' on personnel.
“Why in this job did two firefighters go down? That’ll be our question. I just want to know what’s happened in this particular instance,” he said.
A fellow firefighter also trapped in the building remains in critical condition.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Assistant Commander John Cawcutt said when she walked into the station, people were drawn to her due to her nature and knowledge of the job.
Flags at stations were lowered to half staff.
Lights at Brisbane city hall are red in her honor.
