The firefighters were searching the Brunswick home for victims when they were injured.

Two Glynn County firefighters are recovering from burns they received in a flashover at a house fire over the weekend.

Firefighters William Spooner, 34, and Nathan Desrosiers, 22, were caught as they were searching a burning house for victims, Glynn County Fire Chief Vincent DiCristofalo told First Coast News on Monday.

The firefighters suffered second-degree burns on their ears, necks, shoulders, arms and hands, but were discharged from the hospital Saturday night. They're starting treatment and will return to work when they've recovered, the chief said.

The family that lived in the home were out of town.

The cause remains under investigation, DiCristofalo said.

Neighbors said they appreciate the firefighters.

“They got a job that I don’t think too many people want, but somebody has to do it, And it’s a dangerous job, said Melvin Lewis, a neighbor.
