Nov. 29—NORWALK — The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a three-alarm fire on Golden Hill Street near the corner of Bayview Avenue on Saturday afternoon, which ultimately hospitalized five firefighters, officials said.
The department responded to the fire in the 10 block of Golden Hill Street shortly after 2:30 p.m. Fire officials initially reported that the fire was on the 20 block of Bayview Avenue.
Crews encountered a "heavy fire and severe conditions," according to a Saturday evening press release. The fire was severe enough that it required the work of all Norwalk fire companies to extinguish.
Five firefighters who battled the flames were treated at Norwalk Hospital for burns and were all released. No occupants of the house were injured in the fire, although the blaze displaced twelve people who are receiving support from the Red Cross.
Norwalk police said Bayview Avenue is closed due to the fire and advised motorists to avoid the area, as of 2:47 p.m. on Saturday.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
No further information was immediately available.
