New AZ Fire Station Focused on Firefighter Well-Being

June 3, 2022
Tucson Fire Station 9 was designed with hot, warm and cold zones to help with cancer prevention and other features to keep its firefighters safe.

Firefighters assigned to Tucson Fire Station 9 moved into their new home Wednesday.

The new firehouse replaces an outdated station that was built in 1966.

Sixteen firefighters work at the station known as the "House of Pain," according to Tucson.com.

The station features hot, warm and cold zones as part of the department's stance on cancer prevention, an individual alerting system, and a fitness area.

The 19,000-square-foot station is one of five that will be rebuilt with funding from a city bond.
