April 19, 2024
As station's sprinkler system activated to quell the flames, firefighters managed to get other rigs out.

Firefighters often tout the importance of smoke alarms and sprinklers.

And, they made a difference early Thursday for five Concord firefighters when fire broke out in their station.

Alerted by smoke alarms about 4 a.m., they managed to get the swift-water rescue truck and safety officer truck out of the firehouse, Then, they battled the flames.

The fire originated in a reserve ladder truck, valued at about $1.2 million, Queen City News reported.

Fire Chief Jake Williams said  he was awake when the alert about the fire came through on his phone.

“When you’re in this line of business, there’s always the unexpected.  So they train for unexpected things to happen. So, the crew here performed extremely well."

The odor of burned material lingered in the station throughout the day. But, all realized just how lucky they were.

The station will need a new door and a thorough cleaning.

“Anytime that you lose one of your company’s [equipment], definitely impacts your operational standpoint for having a reserve. But we do have different venders that we reached out to. We’ve had another fire truck recently that got totaled on the interstate. We had a vendor supply us with a rental fire truck. So there are rental fire trucks,” the chief said.

Concord fire crews found a reserve ladder truck on fire and the bay area was filled with smoke. Thanks for stopping by Queen City News' YouTube channel!
