ALTOONA, Pa.
--
A Blair County community has completed project that will allow emergency crews to reduce their response times and increase efficiency.
Altoona's new public safety wireless network is one of the largest in the state. Because of the network, law enforcement officials will be able to take information on the road with them instead of being required to collect data at the office.
Police officers will now be able to access license plates, warrants and other records from their patrol cars.
The wireless network will also enable firefighters to pull up building maps so they'll know what obstacles they may be facing when responding to a fire.
The cars were installed with online wireless service last week and officials said there are 335 places in the city for the Wi-Fi access.
The wireless service will only be available to city service workers assigned to the network.
