FL Firefighters Help Hobbled Dog on Roadside

A Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crew was returning to the station when the firefighters spotted an injured dog with an apparent broken leg on the side of the road.

The dog’s name isn’t known, but rescuers think “Lucky” may be a good moniker.

On Tuesday, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crew was heading back to their station when they happened upon a dog with an apparent broken leg in the road on the 2500 block of Southwest 40th Avenue in West Park.

“Without hesitation, the crew of Rescue 32 began treatment on the scene and promptly transported the friendly pooch to Hollywood Animal Hospital for treatment," said Battalion Chief Michael Kane, the agency’s spokesman.

The dog appears to be a pit bull mix about 2-years old.

Kane theorizes the animal may have been hit by a car.

The injured dog was treated at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital, 2864 Hollywood Blvd., and seems to be doing well.

“She’s so cute,” one attendant is heard saying as rescuers took some cellphone video with the pit bull pup at the clinic.

Hospital spokeswoman Linda Ream told WSVN-Ch. 7 that the dog has multiple fractures but is likely to make a full recovery.

“She’s resting comfortably and seems to be in good spirits,” Ream told the station.

Unless the owner comes forward, the dog will be put up for adoption after recovering.

For Rescue 32, helping the animal in distress is just part of the job of making a difference in someone’s life every day, Kane said.

“Even if that someone is of the four-legged kind."
